Thematic Units of Instruction in Art

Working alone or with a partner, undergraduate art education students created two-lesson units of instruction based on one of four exhibitions. Students conducted research about the works and artists before creating the units of instruction.

The units were to be comprised of two lessons. One lesson was to have conceptual, art historical, art critical, or aesthetic inquiry as its focus. The other lesson could also include inquiry activities for these areas, but should have artmaking as its primary focus. The order in which these lessons should be taught was left up to the students to determine.

Students began with their research and developed a theme or themes from which they designed their lessons.
